"If you take any of the other musicians that I’m usually grouped in with and compare our records, you’ll find that I make much weirder music than them. One thing I dislike is when I see someone on Twitter say, ‘My favorite R&B acts are How to Dress Well and Frank Ocean.’ There’s a double disservice done there— on one level, to other practicing R&B artists, and on another level, to me, because I think of myself as an experimental musician. The first song on my record is a William Basinski homage, and the third song is a Steve Reich homage. To me, that doesn’t quite line up with me being anyone’s favorite R&B artist."
